New Class for 2022

NEW NAME:    Tuning Fork Therapy® ‘Hands-On’-Level One

 

Course based on the massage manual titled, “Pearson’s Massage Therapy: Blending Art with Science,” by Patricia J. Benjamin.

Description: This course will cover the history and ways that a tuning fork has been incorporated in the medical field, athletic arena, and therapeutic massage session. Students will discover how to use a tuning fork as a massage tool for locating and activating trigger points, acupressure points, and reflexology areas. Students will learn how to locate and use massage techniques and a tuning fork on the insertion and origin of muscles, as well as, directly on muscle sore spots to help reduce pain and relieve stress and anxiety. Instructor will cover massage techniques and tuning fork use on scar tissue and adhesions. Students will learn how to enhance tissue repair and release adhesions, increase superficial circulation, and promote muscle relaxation. This course will cover the 18 common tender points of a person suffering from Fibromyalgia and how to use massage techniques and a tuning fork to bring about relief from pain. Proper body alignment and stacking of joints will be covered and demonstrated.

 

Course Outline

10-11:00am - Welcome and Introductions. Instructor will discuss the history of the tuning fork and demonstrate some of its uses as a tool in the medical field, the sports and fitness arena, and therapeutic massage session. Instructor will discuss the Integumentary System and how the massage session and the use of a tuning fork can affect this system.

  1. Learning Objective: Student will learn the history of the tuning fork and be able to name at least one way in which the tuning fork has been incorporated into a medical, athletic, or therapeutic session.
  2. Learning Objective: Student will discuss and give an example of how a massage vs. the use of tuning fork can affect the Integumentary System.

11:00am-NOON - Instructor will demonstrate how to activate different types of tuning forks (weighted vs. unweighted). Instructor will also demonstrate how to soften the activation using a variety of different methods of activations for the comfort of the client. Methods of using a tuning will include direct contact on a client where massage is indicated.

  1. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate one way to activate a weighted tuning fork.
  2. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate at least two different ways to activate an unweighted tuning fork.
  3. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate at least one method to use to soften the sound and vibration of a tuning fork.

Noon-1pm - Instructor will work on a volunteer who has a knotted muscle and demonstrate both hands-on massage techniques and tuning fork techniques for releasing the muscle. Proper joint stacking and proper body alignment will be shown.

  1. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate how to use a deep tissue massage technique on a knotted muscle.
  2. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate proper joint stacking techniques.

 

1-2pm=LUNCH BREAK

 

2pm-4pm-Instructor will discuss and demonstrate how to use specific massage techniques and a tuning fork to aide in enhancing tissue repair, scar formation, improve pliability of fascia, improve connective health of tissue, and to increase circulation. Instructor will cover massage techniques to use on scar tissue and adhesions. Proper body alignment and hygiene will be discussed and demonstrated.

  1. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate a fascia massage technique for adhesions.
  2. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate how to use a tuning fork on scar tissue to promote wound healing and increase circulation.
  3. Student will demonstrate proper body alignment
  4. Student will demonstrate proper hygiene techniques for using a tuning fork before, during, and after a session.

 

4pm-6pm - Instructor will discuss and demonstrate the 18 common tender points of a person suffering from Fibromyalgia and ways in which massage and using a tuning fork can be used to reduce pain. Proper body alignment and joint stacking technique will be covered and demonstrated.

  1. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate how to locate the two common tender points on the client’s arm.
  2. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate how to properly stack their joints to give a massage on a common tender point on the back of the client’s leg.
  3. Learning Objective: Student will demonstrate how to properly activate and use a tuning fork on a common tender point that is too sensitive to receive a massage.

                          

6pm - Q & A, clean-up, evaluation forms, awarding of certificates

This course is the newest course offered for the NCBTMB Ce's.


Students attending this course will receive the Tuning Fork Therapy book, three instructional video links, 8pc set of student Harmonic unweighted tuning forks, and round, black hockey puck.

 

Bring a friend to clas with you and they pay only 1/2 the cost but will receive all items and tools as listed above.
